This Gold Coast Mansion is everything The Great Gatsby. I totally felt like a Bridgerton and you will too! I know, two totally different time periods, however, I still imagined them to have felt the same. The grounds are extensive and beautifully maintained. You must visit this Gold Coast Mansion of Long Island, Old Westbury Gardens.
This post is all about travel things to do on Long Island, specifically:
Old Westbury Gardens, 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568.
Their Mission:
“Old Westbury Gardens seeks to inspire appreciation of the early 20th century American country estate through faithful preservation and interpretation of its landscape, gardens, architecture, and collections.”
Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the former home of John S. Phipps, heir to a U.S. Steel fortune, his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps and their four children. Completed in 1906 by the English designer, George A. Crawley, the magnificent Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes. Westbury House is furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts from the more than fifty years of the family’s residence.
My Mission:
As part of my mission to explore this wondrous planet, it is my duty as a curious human to get out and explore! As such, I landed on Old Westbury Gardens, and I am delighted to share this experience with you. When you visit, make sure to wear comfortable shoes! There is lots to see and you are free to roam the grounds for as long as you like, until closing of course. You will explore the mansion and the gardens, and they will not disappoint. I obviously did not want to leave lol! I love mansions, especially the historic ones. If you’re interested in history, then on this self-guided tour you will be able to learn and discover at your own pace. Priceless.
Old Westbury Gardens includes a lavishly decorated, 23-room Charles II-style mansion and impeccably groomed formal gardens. We are talking a fabulously impressive old and new-world charm. Breathtaking. The docents are courteous, attentive, and pleasantly well versed. Photo-taking is allowed; however, permit/permission is required for professional photography. So be ready to snap to your heart’s desire or, at the very least, until your battery runs out.
Visit Old Westbury Garden’s website to learn more about general admission, membership, mansion tours, programs and exhibitions! I am looking forward to visiting again in the fall, I bet the autumn colors will be just as beautiful!
Are you going to visit? What is your favorite part of the grounds? Let me know in the comments!
Happy exploring 🖤
