I must say Gingerbites is a unique restaurant – it gives bistro/cafe vibes that serves Haitian food with distinct flavors and tastes; this was my first-time dining in a Haitian cuisine establishment, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was pleasant, the place was clean with comfortable seating (either indoor or outdoor, you get to choose), and Haitian music was softly playing in the background. The food was plentiful and delicious, and to top, the hostess, Michelle, was phenomenal in guest service. She went above and beyond to ensure that we were enjoying our meals. She even offered to snap a few photos of us!

Everything felt authentic: from the neatly placed Black artworks to the drinks. The food was savory and not too spicy; however, you are given a specialty hot sauce and pikliz (Haitian pickled vegetable relish) on the side for those who want more heat. The appetizers and main course meals were scrumptious! Every spoonful was filled with a medley of spiced just right bite.

For instance, we ordered macaroni au gratin (baked mac and cheese), akra croquette (malanga vegetable fritters seasoned with herbs), marinade (fried dumplings served with creole sauce), oxtail nan sos and riz colle (oxtails seasoned in creole spices with rice and beans), tasso (tender chunks of goat served with rice and beans) all with sides of bannann peze (fried green plantains); and for drinks we ordered ginger citronade with tequila (Haitian soft drink mix) and Couronne fruit champagne soda (Cola Couronne is one of the most popular soft drinks in Haiti). The foods and drinks were all highly pleasing, a wave of yum with each mouthful.

Dessert is always my favorite part of the meal. As such, we ordered warmed chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and pain patate (sweet potato bread pudding). I have a sweet tooth; I would argue that all my teeth are sweet teeth lol! The desserts were not as sweet as I would have liked them to be, however, they finished off our meals nicely – it was an interesting contrast from spice to lightly sweet – so if you like low sweetened desserts, then you might enjoy these offerings. All things were reasonably priced, additionally, the portion sizes and value of each plate were terrific.
