The Heckscher Museum of Art presents dynamic exhibitions and inspiring museum programs, serving the people of the Town of Huntington and all of Long Island. It maintains an important Permanent Collection that includes more than 2,300 pieces by American and European artists.
The Heckscher Museum Celebrates 100 commemorated the fascinating people, art, and events that have shaped the thriving Museum during its first century. For instance, it is brimming with masterworks and historical objects from the permanent collection. The exhibition took visitors from the original collection donated in 1920 to the exhibitions, and acquisitions that have shaped the Museum since. Additionally, the exhibition transformed the galleries, some with “salon-style” displays from floor to ceiling. Thus ensuring that more of Museum’s impressive collection can be seen. Moreover, grouped chronologically by acquisition year, the exhibition pauses at important “moments” in the Museum’s story. #Heckscher100

Firstly, as part of my mission to explore the planet I live on, traversing historical sites always opens up the world and this fascinating piece of history is well worth the visit. Secondly, I love museums as they are filled with so much history, information, artifacts, and exhibits that transcends time. Finally, I truly enjoy these types of experiences – exposure to cultures and creativity sparks inspiration to further create in your own way.
Imagine a perfect day out: first visiting a museum with the opportunity to create (an electronic paint board where you can “paint” your own artwork, which could be erased – no pressure of course), then you can take a pleasant stroll through the gardens and park where there is more art and wildlife. Finally, a leisurely walk to the Town of Huntington that is not far from the museum where there are plenty of restaurants and shops to explore.
The Heckscher Museum was founded in 1920 by Anna and August Heckscher who donated the Museum building and 185 works of art to the Town of Huntington. Mr. and Mrs. Heckscher envisioned Heckscher Park and the Museum as the center of the community’s cultural, recreational, and social life. Inspired by that vision, the Museum has championed the value of publicly accessible art and arts education for everyone.
Heckscher Park is a Town of Huntington Park with amenities including a 9-11 Memorial, Bocce Courts, Model Sail Boating, Playground, Lighted Playing Field and 4 Lighted Tennis Courts, Sculpture Garden, 1/3 mile jogging path loop, Rest Rooms, and besides Heckscher Park is popular for nature study, and has many opportunities to view the varied plants and wildlife around the park’s pond.
